The Ukrainian national basketball team maintained its second position in the group after the initial matches of the second round of the 2027 World Cup qualifiers. The team secured a victory against Greece, while the other games in the group concluded with wins for Georgia and Portugal.
The top three teams from each of the four first-round groups advanced to the final qualification stage. Ukraine competed in the first round in a group with Georgia and Spain, while Montenegro played in a quartet with Portugal and Greece. In the second round, teams’ results are carried over, and national squads play against representatives from other groups.
Group I Standings:
- Spain — 12 points (7 matches), +93 (point difference)
- Ukraine — 12 (7), +51
- Montenegro — 11 (7), -50
- Portugal — 11 (7), +42
- Georgia — 11 (7), +1
- Greece — 10 (7), +19
To qualify for the 2027 World Cup, the Ukrainian national team needs to finish the second round of qualification among the top three teams in its group. The top three national teams from each of the four second-round groups will directly advance to the final tournament in Qatar.
The “blue-yellows” will play their next qualification match for the 2027 World Cup against Montenegro on Monday, August 31st, at 21:30 Kyiv time. The Greek national team will play against Spain on the same day, while Portugal will face Georgia.
Recall that Real Madrid announced the signing of Maksym Shulha. The Madrid club offered the Ukrainian basketball player a two-year contract.
